Fall is here and the weather is perfect to be outdoors (I speak of my part of the planet). It is mosquito breeding season too! And with the mosquitoes comes the discomfort and the nasty viruses.
As I am detoxing ( and even otherwise) – I find it hard to put on my body the chemicals listed in mosquito repellents. I prefer to use citronella patches, which are often not easily available.
Attempting to keep up with my belief “put on your skin what you are willing to put in your mouth” ,I scoured through many essential oil resources and came up with my version of a mosquito repellent. It works well, keeps the mosquito away and has a pleasant scent.
DIY Mosquito repellent
100 ml distilled water (I collected rain water)
½ tsp olive oil (add more if you have dry skin and need some moisturizing!)
4 drops Lemongrass essential oil
6 drops Citronella essential oil
10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
8 drops neem essential oil
Pour the water in a 4 oz. dark glass spray bottle.
- Add the oils, and mix well.
- Store the repellent in a cool spot.
- Shake vigorously before use.
- And enjoy the outdoors!
Try this and let me know what you think.
Wondering where to buy the essential oils- this is where I buy my essential oils and other health foods.
