During a recent Healthy Grocery Workshop, I was trying to identify a clean almond milk ( the one with least amount of additives or unnecessary ingredients); Every box I picked and turned around to take a look at the ingredients– I was shocked to not only find sugar but a whole array of other ingredients and preservatives that I never realized were in most store-bought nut milks. Yes, store bought versions are convenient but come with (not so healthy) additives.
It’s time to share the recipe of my two favorite non dairy milks–
½ cup hemp seeds
1 1/2 cups water…
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla
Blend in a high-powered blender, and strain through nut milk bag or cheesecloth ( optional).
ALMOND MILK:
1 cup whole raw almonds soaked overnight; drain and rinsed in the morning
3 cups water
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla (optional)
Blend in a high-powered blender, and strain through nut milk bag or cheesecloth.
Each nut/seed yields a different texture and flavor. Almond milk is creamy , mild great for baking. While cashew milk is rich and very creamy great for replacing creams in soups and desserts. Hemp Milk is in my opinion is the easiest milk to make and is very mild tasting. Flaxseeds yield a smooth and subtly nutty milk. Hazelnuts, macadamia , pecans, sunflower seeds , pumpkin seeds can all be used to make non-dairy milk,
Which one is a your favorite?
